About Barbara

Hello everyone!  My name is Barbara Dixon.  I am excited to be a part of the Savannah Adventist Christian School community. I was born on the beautiful island of Jamaica and migrated to Canada in 2004. Over the next twelve years, I served in the Ontario Conference of Seventh-day Adventist as an administrative assistant, student accounts officer and later, an elementary/middle school teacher. During these years I taught multi-grades ranging from 3-8. In 2016, my husband Lenworth and I migrated to Georgia and became residents of the growing City of Pooler.

I am a very positive person who is enthusiastic about life, and very passionate about my potential impact on the academic growth and development of my students.  I am a multi-skilled professional, with experience in education, business administration, communications, and other related areas. I am very flexible in my teaching and learning strategies and can adapt easily to my students’ needs or to various assigned duties.

My qualifications include a successful completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree at Northern Caribbean University and a Masters of Education Degree at the University of Toronto. I believe in lifelong learning and as such, I have completed additional courses of study to remain abreast of the ever-changing views in education. My qualifications also include: an Ontario Certified Teacher Certificate, Georgia Educator Certificate and a North American Division Teacher Certification. In addition to these, I have additional certification in Elementary/Junior Education and in Reading.

As a Christian educator, I am committed to use my skills to facilitate and develop a creative, inclusive learning environment that fosters the holistic development of all learners. Over the years I have successfully instructed students in Mathematics, English Language Arts, Reading, Science, Social Studies, Visual Arts, and Physical Education. I believe that the home, school, and church, working together can positively impact students to become successful citizens, and help prepare them for eternity.

When I am not working, I enjoy nature walks, preparing delicious Jamaican meals and relaxing with my hubby.
